Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides................. hopefully the tide's going out.

So, I had a much needed day off yesterday, and decided that I would like to spend it going to see the new Pirates movie in IMAX 3D.

Long story short; the 3D and IMAX bit wasn't working at the theater I went too and I had to see it in normal boring 2D letterbox. As far as the film goes;

*MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS* you have been warned

My dear friends, I fear the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise has died. This new film reiterates pretty much every joke and gimmick from the last 3 films, and adds a, "slow motion dive/jump from something about to explode!" scene.

Penelope Cruz plays Angelica, Captain Jack's "love" interest and lady pirate. Captain Barbossa returns in all his peg legged gnarly pirate glory to try to beat Sparrow's crew to The Fountain of Youth. I'll be honest, I was hoping Barbossa got there first as he was looking a wee bit rough.

Sooo, the plot is about how Blackbeard, the British Royal Navy, and the Spanish monarchy are racing each other to Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth. Adventure ensues...... kind of. I will say that my favorite part is the mermaid scene. Apparently, you need the tear of a mermaid to make the youth water work, so Blackbeard's crew ventures into mermaid infested waters and tried to make one cry? In any case, the beautiful and majestic mermaids show up, enchant a few of the more feeble minded crew members, grow fangs, and try to KILL EVERYONE! Being as I am a girl who's often been slightly riled by the cutesy, princessy, and loving mermaids that are often portrayed now a days, the scary mermaid attack got my silent nod of approval.

I'll be honest, I fell asleep after that. I woke up just in time to watch the end, roll my eyes, and escape the theater essentially leaving my husband because he wanted to watch the "special extra scene after the credits." I went and got my money back as I paid for IMAX 3D, and as I said, did not get that. So, financially, it like this whole thing NEVER HAPPENED!

I do think that people who are really big fans of the POTC series may find it entertaining, but as I am one of those people who does not like a movie just because it's apart of a series, so I couldn't get into it.

The Top Ten Most Disturbing Events In Video Games :0

While there have been numerous images burned into my mind and left me awake at night in my video gaming history, joystickdivision.com definitely got me thinking with their, "Top Ten" list.

http://www.joystickdivision.com/2011/05/the_top_ten_disturbing_moments.php

I most certainly remember the Bioshock puppy-killing scene, and Link's near death encounter with Mommy Dad , but just seeing the video of Pyramid Head raping the white mannequins left my jaw on the floor.

That being said, once I checked out Joystick Divisions awesome list, it made me think of the ONE video game moment that actually made me scream. Not sure why as looking back, it's pretty tame. Just surprised I suppose. This is from Bioshock;

As if THAT is the most horrifying thing about Bioshock...
